  37.       The Setup program will detect and retain some settings from
  38.       your previous version of Netscape Navigator PE. If you use a
  39.       script to log into Concentric, Setup will also convert your
  40.       old login scripts to use the new format.

  42.    b. Windows 95:

  44.       If you have an older version of Netscape Navigator PE installed
  45.       on your computer, your Dialer files will be converted to Windows 95
  46.       Dial-Up Networking connections. If you had used Personal Edition
  47.       to configure your Microsoft Exchange mail preferences, Netscape
  48.       Navigator PE 3.0 will configure the Navigator to use your old mail
  49.       preferences.

  53. 2. Installation Tips
  54.  
  55.    a. Installing Over Netscape 2.X
  56.  
  57.       If you are installing Netscape Navigator 3.0 over an existing
  58.       copy of Netscape 2.X, you must reboot your system (not just
  59.       restart Windows) after installation and before you can connect
  60.       to the network. To do this, close Windows, then hit the reset
  61.       button, or turn your computer off and on again.
  62.  
  63.    b. Other Browser Software.
  64.  
  65.       If you have other Web browsers or online software on your system,
  66.       you may experience difficulty in installing or configuring
  67.       Netscape Navigator PE. Try un-installing the other software, then
  68.       resume the Netscape Navigator installation. If you have more problems,
  69.       see the information on winsock.dll conflicts in the "Troubleshooting"
  70.       section below.

  83.       Select the Mail and News Preferences under the Options menu.
  84.       On the Servers tab, set "Check for Mail" to the number of
  85.       minutes the Netscape Navigator should wait between mail checks.

  89.       set "Check for Mail" to 0 to prevent the Netscape Navigator from making
  90.       an auto-dial to the network to check your mail.

  94.        1) Windows 3.x
  95.  
  96.           NOTE: Do not run NUNINST.EXE unless you are certain that
  97.           you want to uninstall Netscape Navigator PE  3.0.  After
  98.           running nuninst.exe, some Netscape configuration information
  99.           will be deleted, even if you choose No on the uninstaller's
  100.           confirmation dialog. If you begin any part of the uninstall
  101.           process, you must re-install the entire product.
  102.  
  103.           To uninstall Netscape Navigator PE, run the program
  104.           NUNINST.EXE. The uninstall program is located in the
  105.           C:\cncinet\netscape\uninstal directory.

  107.        2) Windows 95
  108.  
  109.           To Uninstall Netscape Navigator PE, select
  110.           Settings | Control Panel from the Windows 95 Start Menu.
  111.           Then select Add / Remove Programs from the Control Panel.
  112.           To uninstall, select Netscape Navigator PE from the list
  113.           of installed programs, and click the Add / Remove button.

  117. 4. Troubleshooting
  118.  
  119.    a. My modem is not listed in Modem Wizard's list of modems.
  120.  
  121.       First, try the "Hayes compatible" setting.  If the "Hayes
  122.       compatible" setting does not work, try the "Other Windows
  123.       modem" setting.
  124.  
  125.       If this happens, you will have to specify your modem manually.
  126.  
  127.       1) Restart Windows, then double click on the Account Signup icon
  128.          in the Netscape Navigator PE Program Group.
  129.       2) Click through Account Setup until you reach the Modem Setup
  130.          dialog box.
  131.       3) Check the box beside the phrase, "DonÆt detect my modem, let
  132.          me specify it."
  133.       4) Select your modem from the list, then complete the rest of
  134.          the Account Signup procedure.
  135.  
  136.    b. I'm using Windows 95, and my computer won't dial my modem.
  137.  
  138.       After installing your modem under Windows 95, either through
  139.       the Modems icon in the Windows 95 Control Panel, or through
  140.       the Account Setup Wizard, you must shut down and restart
  141.       your entire computer before Windows 95 will be able to dial
  142.       your modem.
  143.  
  144.    c. I can't connect to the network. What do I do?
  145.  
  146.       There are several reasons why you may not be able to connect
  147.       to the network. Here are four of the most common:
  148.  
  149.       1) In order to gain access to the network, you must type in your
  150.          UserID and password exactly as you entered them when you reg-
  151.          istered for your Concentric Network account. Make sure that
  152.          you are typing in your UserID and password correctly.
  153.  
  154.       2) If you upgraded from Netscape Navigator PE version 2.X,
  155.          you must restart your entire computer after the installation
  156.          process before you can connect to the network. The Install
  157.          Wizard will restart Windows for you, but this is not the
  158.          same as rebooting your whole system. To reboot, wait for
  159.          Windows to come onscreen again, then close it down. At the
  160.          DOS prompt, hit your reset button, or switch the power off
  161.          and on again to reboot your computer.
  162.  
  163.       3) If you have configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS (Domain
  164.          Name Service), you may not be able to connect to other hosts
  165.          through your Dial-Up Networking connection.  Your Dial-Up
  166.          Networking connection contains its own fields for
  167.          Concentric's name servers, which will be not be used if
  168.          you have specified name servers in your Microsoft TCP/IP
  169.          configuration.
  170.  
  171.          The Account Setup Wizard will warn you if you have
  172.          configured Microsoft TCP/IP to use DNS.  If you see this
  173.          warning, double-click the Getting Started icon in your
  174.          Netscape Navigator program group, and read the topics on "DNS
  175.          configuration" to either modify or disable DNS.
  176.  
  177.       4) In order to execute properly, Netscape uses a file called
  178.          winsock.dll, a copy of which was installed in the c:\cncinet\
  179.          netscape directory on your system with this software. If you
  180.          have more than one copy of winsock on your system, Netscape
  181.          may not be able to tell which one to use. To find out if you
  182.          have multiple copies of winsock on your system, and to learn
  183.          how to disable redundant copies, follow these steps:
  184.  
  185.          a) Locate all copies of winsock.dll on your system.
  186.             * Windows 3.x users, open the Main Program Group, and
  187.               double click on the File Manager icon. Select
  188.               File | Search, and type in winsock.dll
  189.             * Windows 95 users, click on the Start button, and select
  190.               Programs | Windows Explorer. Select Tools | Find, and
  191.               type in winsock.dll
  192.          b) If the resulting list shows that you have more than one
  193.             copy of winsock.dll on your system, you must rename the
  194.             redundant copies to disable them. DO NOT RENAME THE
  195.             WINSOCK.DLL FILE IN YOUR C:\CNCINET\NETSCAPE DIRECTORY.
  196.             This is the one copy of the file that Netscape will need
  197.             in order to execute properly.
  198.          c) In File Manager or Windows Explorer, locate a redundant
  199.             winsock.dll file that is NOT in the c:\cncinet\netscape
  200.             directory.
  201.          d) Highlight the winsock.dll file
  202.          e) From the File menu, select Rename
  203.          f) Rename the file: winsock.old
  204.          g) Repeat steps 3-6 for each redundant winsock.dll file,
  205.             changing the name slightly each time to winsock2.old,
  206.             winsock3.old, etc. DO NOT RENAME THE WINSOCK.DLL FILE
  207.             IN YOUR C:\CNCINET\NETSCAPE DIRECTORY.
  208.          h) Try connecting to Concentric Network again to see if
  209.             this change resolved your problem.
